She was a friend of ours,

but we can never know her name ...

The Coffin and Rose.

11th. October 2000

Today we are reminded that Christianity has been part of our lives and the Lady whose worldly remains we will return to the ground, for 2000 Years.

Our first prayer this afternoon is therefore the prayer which
Jesus gave to us and that crosses the boundary of time.

Together

Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into
temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

A committal

Most merciful Father Redeemer of mankind, whose love for all
your children is unchanging and unending, we commend to your love the lady whose name we know not to your care for ever.
Fulfil in her 0 Lord, your own gracious work and perfect will,
that she may be at peace, and grant that in due time we too may
be united with you and this lady in Eternal life.
We therefore commit these mortal remains to the ground,
earth to earth, ashes to ashes, and dust to dust,
in certain hope of the Resurrection through Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen.

LITTLE HALLINGBURY VILLAGE HISTORY SOCIETY.

This page has been produced to record the re burial of the female remains found during 1999 in a Roman Lead Coffin in a remote field on David and Mel Robarts farm in Little Hallingbury - Essex - England.

Little Hallingbury Village History Society undertook the exploration and archaeological survey of the site with help from Harlow Museum and Bishops Stortford History Society.

It was a successful team effort and any interested parties who would like to discuss this matter, or the new dig at "The Hallingbury Villa Dig", this is a different location to the "Coffin Site" would be welcome to write to:

Sue Meyer. Anvil Farm. Little Hallingbury. Essex. CM22 7RD.
